SOUTH CAROLINA LOW LANDS
This client was referred to me by an old friend. They had hired a local designer and felt that she was not showing them things that were of the same quality as the house they were building. They had bought a couple of rugs and most of the interior light fixtures. The client was smart: he told me I could give away anything I did not like. We kept one rug and the chandelier that you see in the living room and moved forward and away from the black and red tile the first designer wanted to use in the kitchen.
This is one of my favorite clients. They are both English and have a beautiful Mill House in Bath, England where they live in the Summer. He is the retired Chairman of a New York Stock Exchange listed company. The home is about 18,000 square feet and sits on seven acres on the inland waterway in Bluffton, South Carolina. As he told me one day, "This is my dream house." They are traditional and like color, so rich jewel tones was what we were after. They wanted an elegant, traditional house where they could entertain and have friends and family come and stay to just relax and live well. The house was built by one of the best contractors I have ever worked with, Bay 10 Ventures.
